Deputy Sheriff Position:
The Northumberland County Sheriff’s Office is now accepting applications for the position of Patrol Deputy. Duties will include law enforcement, service of criminal and civil process and court operations.
Available positions: Full-Time (1)
Applicants must:
-Be at least 21 years of age, possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving history
-Have a minimum education of high school diploma or equivalent
-Be able to pass a physical agility test
-Be able to pass a written examination
-Have a desire to help and be part of a tight-knit rural community
-Be service-minded
-Be willing to work shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays
A criminal history will be obtained on each applicant.
Prior law enforcement experience is preferred but not required.

Take-home cars are available for those living within 10 miles of a Northumberland County line and on the Northern Neck peninsula.
The minimum starting salary is $52,000. (full-time) Negotiable with previous Law Enforcement experience

Essential Functions:
Patrols an assigned area and detects violations of traffic and criminal law and suspicious activity.
Responds to radio calls for service.
Serves warrants, civil papers and makes arrests.
Handles domestic disturbances and a variety of citizen complaints.
Directs traffic as necessary.
Conducts criminal investigations.
Testifies in court.
Performs related work as assigned.
