Deputy Sheriff
The Northumberland County Sheriff’s Office is now accepting applications for the position of Patrol Deputy. Duties will include law enforcement, service of criminal and civil process and court operations.
Available positions: Full-Time (1)
OPEN UNTIL FILLED
Applicants must:
-At least 21 years of age
-Have at least 2 years of Virginia Law Enforcement experience
-Possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving history
-Have a minimum education of high school diploma or equivalent
-Be able to pass a physical agility test
-Be able to pass a written examination
-Have a desire to help and be part of a tight-knit rural community
-Be service minded
-Be willing to work shift work including nights, weekends, holidays when school is out
-A criminal history will be obtained on each applicant.
Benefits:
Take home cars may be available depending on the distance from the county line
Starting salary is negotiable with previous Law Enforcement experience.

Communications Officer
The Northumberland County Sheriff’s Office has an opening for a Full-Time Communications Officer.
Applicants must be 18 years of age, have a High School Diploma or equivalent & a valid driver’s license. Applicant must submit to and pass a criminal background check. Must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays. Shift work is required.
Positive communications related experience preferred. Knowledge of the county and & certified Communications Officer through DCJS is preferred but is not a requirement. Data entry skills and ability to operate multiple computer terminals required.
The successful candidate must complete a Communications Basic Course (if not currently certified) and other mandated training.
All notarized applications must be received by March 31 at midnight. Applications will not be accepted after that date.
